THE FIRST QUARRIES
60’s: The Veronese entrepreneur Virginio Tacchella, active in the marble and granite processing sector, opens his first granite quarries in Sardinia. From here the story begins.
-
THE BIRTH
1991: Virginio Srl was officially born, baptized with the name of its founder, as a subsidiary of Marmi Montegrappa, at the time one of the major realities in the Italian stone industry and beyond. Countless projects will be made in the coming years with Virginio granites, including some of the most important buildings in the world.
-
NEW MANAGEMENT
2001: The Virginio is sold by the Veronese owners and purchased, in 2001, by the brothers Antonio and Stefano Luciano, established Sardinian entrepreneurs already active in the extraction sector with the Granite Candle. The acquisition, in fact, constitutes the birth of one of the main mining groups in Sardinia and Italy, with seven active quarries and a production that exceeds 40,000 cubic meters per year of blocks extracted. The Headquarters is moved to Olbia, Sardinia, where the company is still based today.
-
THE BRAND IS BORN: VIR | VOLCANIC ROCKS
2002: With the aim of increasingly projecting itself into foreign markets with different varieties of products and services, an internationalization project is carried out which leads to the creation of the VIR | VOLCANIC ROCKS.
-
EXPANSION AND NEW INVESTMENTS
2012: Antonio Luciano immediately took the reins of the two companies, which under his direction exponentially increased their turnover and their customer base, also reaching the foreign markets of Eastern Europe and the nearby Middle East. The activity in the quarry is increasingly mechanised, with the purchase of new innovative and high-performance machinery which allows the production process to be optimised, reducing waste and improving the working conditions of the workers.
-
INCORPORATION OF CANDELA GRANITI
2013: The management decides to merge the two companies: Virginio Graniti then incorporates Candela Graniti, thus creating a single company.
-
NEW HEADQUARTERS
2015: To respond to the growing needs for space, Virginio purchases an operational area adjacent to the industrial port of Olbia: 8,000 sqm. of warehouses and over 40,000 sqm. of external spaces, to accommodate blocks, slabs and finished products.
